What is Direct Primary Care?
Direct Primary Care (DPC) is a modern, patient-centered way of delivering healthcare. Instead of paying per visit or dealing with insurance hassles, with DPC you become a member of our practice for a simple monthly fee. This membership gives you unlimited access to your doctor without surprise bills, copays, or rushed appointments. While utilizing DPC, you are still able to use your insurance for other things such as medications, vaccines, imaging, labs, hospitalizations, and visits to specialists. Direct primary care is healthcare the way it should be: simple, affordable, and focused on you and your family.
Why make the switch to Direct Primary Care?
Personalized care
More time with your child’s doctor, longer visits, more meaningful care relationships, and a focus on your healthcare priorities.
Convenient access
Text, call, or video chat directly with your child’s physician on the same or next day, or even sooner for urgencies.
Transparent pricing
One flat monthly rate covers most of your child’s primary care needs.
Preventative and proactive focus
Because we are not rushed through your visits, we can spend more time on keeping your child healthy not just a brief treatment when your child is sick.
Truly Personal Care
Expert pediatric care in-person or online, with a doctor who knows you well
WHY DIRECT PRIMARY CARE NOW?
During my career, medical practice has changed dramatically. Each year of the past 15 years there has been more and more focus on insurance and computer work tasks and less time allocated to the patient and building relationships. I have always practiced with the philosophy of listening to and getting to know the patient. I can not tell you how many times I have been able to help a patient because I knew something about their medical history or about them personally that they did not think to mention when discussing their illness. In addition, having relationships with patients and knowing them as people as well as patients dramatically increases my enjoyment and fulfillment as a physician.
I estimate that pediatricians outside of direct primary care, now have about 5-10 minutes at the most to spend with each patient. On top of this, patients’ problems have become more complicated and require more time to address properly. In my opinion, this has led to many problems not being adequately treated or not treated at all. In short, I refuse to change my way of practicing and would rather retire than feel I failed to do my best for patients.
As these changes evolved, I felt that if I could just understand the business of healthcare better, I would be able to discover a solution that would benefit both doctors and patients. Last year, I completed a Masters in Business Administration with a focus in healthcare at the University of Texas at Tyler. I did develop a deep understanding of the American healthcare system. Unfortunately, I could only find one solution to the problems I was experiencing—we have to get the business people and insurance companies out of the relationship between patients and doctors. The solution for the time being is through the model of direct primary care. My hope is that direct primary care will pave the way to improving the entire healthcare system of the future.

FAQs
Some Questions & Answers
DPC is a membership-based model where patients pay a flat monthly fee for unlimited access to their doctor, without the hassle of insurance or other hidden costs
Yes. DPC covers your child’s primary care, but insurance is still needed for vaccines, medications, imaging, laboratory tests, hospitalizations, surgeries, specialist care, and other needs not covered in your membership. Many patients choose to pair a DPC membership with a high-deductible or catastrophic insurance plan.
Most routine and preventative primary care services, same-day or next-day visits, annual check-ups, chronic disease management, and direct access to your child’s doctor through phone, text, or video.
We will coordinate your child’s care, provide referrals, and continue to support you, but hospital or specialist bills are separate from your child’s DPC membership.
You can reach out by phone, text, email, or video—whatever is preferable to you. Because we limit the number of patients in the practice, we are able to respond quickly and give you the time you need.
